The medication should be applied beyond the border of the affected area to ensure that the entire area is treated.Īntifungal creams and powders such as clotrimazole* or miconazole, available without prescription at the pharmacy, are effective against most dermatophytes. Tinea cruris is considered a mild condition and is usually treated with medications that often do not require a prescription. It should easily clear up after 2 to 4 weeks with an antifungal cream, ointment, powder, or lotion applied to the affected area 1 or 2 times a day. Tinea can easily recur after treatment if the source of infection is not removed, so it's important to know where it came from. Jock itch is tinea cruris, from the Latin word for leg. Tinea pedis is athlete's foot tinea capitis is ringworm of the scalp. Infections caused by these organisms go by the medical name tinea. You don't have to be athletic to get jock itch. Under certain conditions, however, they can multiply dramatically, causing irritation and surface tissue damage. The fungi are commonly found on the skin surface and nails and are usually quite harmless. Because of this, this infection is often referred to as "ringworm," although no worm is actually involved. Some people think the infection looks like there is a worm under the skin. It grows in a circle on your skin and often looks like a ring. It's caused by a type of fungus called dermatophytes. Tinea cruris, commonly referred to as jock itch, is a fungal infection in the groin area.

But what gives when you need to scan a QR code you come across the web while browsing on your Mac? Usually, you’ll need to point your phone’s camera towards the QR code to decipher it. QR codes are popularly used today by the entirety of the internet as well as the world outside. It has a built-in QR code and Bar code reader Live Text stretched out the sentences in the paragraph with multiple spaces in between while also skipping some words. However, TextSniper’s result more closely resembled the original text as compared to Apple’s Live Text. I picked a photo of a paragraph written in someone’s handwriting from Google and tried to run both Apple’s and TextSniper’s OCR on it. To demonstrate that point, I got a little courageous. This way, TextSniper could also offer smart options such as address and phone number detection and offer actions based on those options.īesides, TextSniper’s text recognition may even be slightly better than Apple’s Live Text. Just snap a screenshot and all the text is yours to meddle with.Īlthough, an alternate text selection mode would only make things better. While this might be off-putting, it ultimately gives TextSniper a tactical advantage against Live Text-you can recognize text anywhere. You might find this problem to be elevated with more complex text arrangements. With TextSniper, however, there’s a chance that you won’t be able to capture a specific sentence from the image above since there is a chance the rectangular screenshot box may overlap other sentences. Live Text will let you select and copy text normally as if it were a document. Aside from proficiency, though, TextSniper has a minor disadvantage: it doesn’t let you select text naturally. That said, in my testing, TextSniper didn’t run into any problems while recognizing text from even pixelated photos, similar to Live Text. This is where Apple’s Live Text feature already thrives. One of the instances where TextSniper could be really useful is while capturing text from photos. You might want to paste it into a note or a document without its original artistic appearance. This is usually helpful if you’re capturing text that’s arranged creatively in a non-standard fashion. TextSniper also offers an option to disable line breaks. But, in most cases, it will help if the text isn’t formatted. In some cases, you might want the text to be formatted as it is when you paste it. The only element it missed out on is the bullets in the list. TextSniper managed to copy the text with proper line breaks. The text at a point in a YouTube video was arranged in an orderly fashion-a title and a bulleted list of elements as shown in the image below. Naturally, I had to test out some of them. There are a few instances where the developer indicates TextSniper could be useful. I tested the app using different kinds of texts. I was able to capture the text I wanted exactly in the way I wanted nine out of ten times. TextSniper does a decent job in that area. Read along! Text recognition (OCR)Īn OCR app is only as good as its proficiency in capturing text. However, since TextSniper costs $6.99 as opposed to the free Live Text upgrade in macOS Monterey, is it worth enough to spend money on? I’ve tested out the app for you and have some thoughts that will ultimately lead us to an answer. The process is effortless which is a direct indication of how powerful and neatly implemented this app is. TextSniper, however, hits the right spot. OCR apps are difficult to implement, regardless of their ubiquity. The plain text from the screenshot is then saved into the clipboard from where you can easily paste it into a note or a document. Once you do, the screenshot automatically disappears and is not saved onto your Mac. Its simplicity lies in the fact that all you need to do to recognize a random string of restricted text is snap a screenshot of the text. It lets you capture any text on the screen and temporarily save it into the clipboard for later use. The keywords here are “simple” and “powerful.” It’s a fruitful combination. Text Sniper is a simple OCR app with powerful capabilities. However, if there’s one app that has the potential to compete with Live Text, it’s TextSniper. When that feature is baked right into the system and liberally available, it’s pointless to look for alternatives. The sweet convenience of being able to instantly pick out text from photos is an irresistible feature. And Apple’s new Live Text feature has recently arrived to establish dominion over all of them. It is a mitzvah to wash one's hands in the morning, both for hygienic and symbolic reasons: the cleansing represents the removal of spiritual impurity. The first blessing ( al netilat yadayim) relates to washing the hands. It is customary to stand while reciting the preliminary blessings. Because the order of the preliminary prayers was never fixed in Jewish law, it differs not only between Ashkenazim and Sephardim, but even between different prayer books of the same liturgy. Even today, some people continue to say the morning blessings either at home or privately at the synagogue. But gradually, as people became less knowledgeable about the blessings, they began to be included in the synagogue service so that the cantor could recite them out loud for those who were not able to recite them on their own. These blessings, which address many aspects of Jewish life, were originally said in the home, not in the synagogue. The morning prayers start with a series of blessings that center around the routine of waking up in the morning. And it is precisely at the moment when our bellies are full and our immediate physical needs have just been satisfied that this reminder is most needed.Jewish Prayers: Table of Contents| Torah Reading| Shema None of these things come to us solely as a result of our personal efforts. It is a reminder to be grateful for all our blessings - not just food, but a healthy planet, loving parents and family, a sufficient livelihood. This is why Grace After Meals is so much longer and broader than the short blessings said before eating. A bountiful meal, elegantly prepared, purchased with one’s own money (or grown in one’s own garden) can lead to a sense of overconfidence in our power. The temptation will be to forget God and revel in the human power over nature. It is precisely at that moment - of abundance, security, satiety - that expressing faith and gratitude become vitally important.Ĭomfort and security, Moses is telling the Jewish people, may be wonderful - but they are also spiritually perilous. They will establish sovereignty, drive out their enemies, plant fields and vineyards in a land God promised will overflow with abundance. Now the Israelites are entering a new period in their history. But reminders of their ultimate dependance on a higher power were often in evidence. None of this prevented the ancient Israelites from going astray (see: calf, golden). There were the miracles surrounding the Exodus - the plagues on Egypt, the splitting of the sea - followed by the revelation at Sinai and the protections afforded during the wandering in the wilderness. These are among his final parting words for a people soon to venture forth without him.įor most of Moses’ period of leadership, God’s authority was routinely and obviously manifest. This amounts to something of a valedictory for Moses, who will not be accompanying his followers to the promised land after leading the Jewish people out of Egypt and through their wanderings in the desert. Moses’ instruction comes in the context of a long speech to the Jewish people prior to their entry into the land of Israel. But the length and breadth of Grace After Meals - particularly compared to the much shorter and more focused blessings the rabbis ordained should be said prior to eating - suggest a larger objective than mere gratitude for food. Food ultimately comes from land, so by thanking God for land, we are implicitly thanking him also for the bounty of the land. The blessing, according to Moses, is not for the food one eats, but “for the good land.” This makes some sense, of course. In Deuteronomy 8:10, Moses delivers this instruction to the Jewish people: “When you have eaten your fill, give thanks to the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you.” The simple reason for expanding this prayer beyond food traces to the biblical source of saying Grace After Meals. The remainder thank God for the land of Israel and his general goodness, plead for the rebuilding of Jerusalem, and make a series of requests for livelihood, the coming of the messiah, and more. But it’s not just about food only the first of the set of blessings in the Birkat Hamazon explicitly thank God for food. My Jewish Learning is a not-for-profit and relies on your help Donateīirkat Hamazon, also known as Grace After Meals, is a series of blessings of thanksgiving recited after eating a meal. Most bathroom fittings are fixed to one place which means moving your layout around is impossible - so when you get the urge to change up your style you should turn to towels, bathroom accessories and shower curtains for inspiration. The bathroom may well be considered by many to be the smallest room in the home, but it's one that we use several times a day and one that should be considered to be very important! This eliminates the clutter of bottles along the edge of the shower or tub.Everything you need to freshen up your bathroom decor Keep the window ledges clear of bottles and plants, you want the natural light to pour in and not be obstructed with clutter.' Reduce visual clutter by having the counters organized and store 99% of your daily items off the counters and out of sight. Professional organizer, Brenda Scott, owner and operator, Tidy My Space offers her expert tips for bathroom storage ideas: 'Bathrooms usually have a small footprint so every inch needs to be used wisely. What should I keep on display in a bathroom? Just think beyond a towel rail and an undersink unit and you will find there are plenty of places to squeeze in some extra storage. Use baskets for spare toiletries to help organize under the bathroom sink where it can easily get cluttered, use your walls for shelves or ladder storage and, remember the back of the door can always be used to hang everything from bags of loo roll to dressing gowns and towels, of course. Think outside the box and make sure you make the most of all your space. How do I add more storage to my bathroom? There are lots of different options, from cupboards, drawers and sliding doors, plus you can find models that aren't even very expensive. How does a storage bath panel work? Basically, the space behind the panel that covers the side of your bath that's not being taken up by the bath itself is used as extra bathroom storage. These things are ingenious, especially if you have a small bathroom that makes multi-functional furniture a must. Add an industrial vibe with locker style storage Too many baskets can make a space feel crowded, so instead, opt for a few baskets instead of many.' 10. If your bins start to overflow, you know it's time to make time to declutter and donate items you're not using. 'When it comes to basket storage, something to keep in mind is that more storage does not mean more organized. For hidden storage under a sink or in a closet, bigger baskets are great for stashing hair products, accessories, and styling tools,' says Anna Franklin, interior designer and founder of Stone House Collective. If you are using them to keep pretty washcloths and extra hand towels, display the baskets near the sink within easy reach. They are the perfect addition to keeping your bathroom tidy because in addition to being functional, they are easy to transport when you need access to your storage and when selected carefully, baskets will add texture and dimension to what can be an otherwise cold space. However, Baker and another officer testified that his license plates did have covers or frames on them. Garcia denied that his license plate had a cover or frame over it. Minnesota law provides: “it is unlawful to cover any assigned letters and numbers or the name of the state of origin of a license plate with any material whatever …. However, the judge also determined that Baker had reasonable suspicion to make the vehicle stop because Baker believed that Garcia had committed a license-plate violation. She also found that a jury could find that Baker stopped Garcia’s vehicle because of the offensive gesture. Judge Bresel acknowledged that Garcia’s middle-finger gesture was protected expressive conduct under the First Amendment. The judge reasoned that Garcia’s First Amendment claim must fail because to maintain a First Amendment retaliation claim, the offending government officials must lack probable cause or arguable probable cause to make the arrest. Bresel ruled in favor of the defendants in Garcia v. The defendants countered that Garcia’s First Amendment claim failed because Baker had reasonable suspicion to stop the vehicle. He alleged that Officer Baker retaliated against him because of his protected expressive conduct of flipping her the middle finger. Garcia’s First Amendment claim focused on retaliation. The defendants had the case removed to federal court since the lawsuit involved federal constitutional-law claims. Garcia then filed a lawsuit in state court, contending that Baker and others violated his First Amendment right to freedom of speech and his Fourth Amendment right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures. On the advice of his attorney, Garcia took a defensive-driving course and wrote a letter of apology to Baker in exchange for the dismissal of the disorderly conduct charge. I was CEO of Spirit at this time, and that strike was only partially due to disagreements between Spirit and its pilot union. The last pilot strike in the U.S.was 13 years ago, in 2010, at Spirit Airlines. The process also makes actual strikes very rare. Often, big headline-making wage improvements are biased by the fact some some of the payments are to make up for years in negotiation with no increases. The RLA process can take years, and often does. A PEB was used to avert a strike at American Airlines in 1997. air traffic, a PEB is likely though not certain. For one of the big four airlines in the U.S., who each carry roughly 20% of all U.S. The PEB compels each side to keep negotiating and does not allow any self-help action to take place. This allows the President of the United States to convene a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB). The RLA has one other feature to stop a strike. In 2005, Northwest Airlines locked out their mechanics and replaced them at this point in their negotiation process. That means the union can strike, and that management can lock out current employees and replace them. During this period, both sides can continue to negotiate knowing that if the cooling off ends without a deal, each side can resort to self-help. If it gets to this point, the mediator can “release” both sides from the mediation process and then the two sides enter a 30-day “cooling off” period. Southwest reported a $159 million loss during the first quarter of 2023 and a company-record $5.7 billion in quarterly revenue. The airline’s expenses for the first three months of the year totalled nearly $6 billion, including $380 million related to its total operational meltdown during the peak of December 2022 holiday travel. The mediation process can fail if the mediator believes that the two sides cannot reach a deal. ”Our pilots are tired of apologising to our passengers on behalf of a company that refuses to place its priorities on its internal and external customers.” “The lack of leadership and the unwillingness to address the failures of our organisation have led us to this point,” says SWAPA President Casey Murray. SWAPA says that with a potential strike looming, its pilots ”have already made their voices heard about the operational disasters and the lack of progress after three-plus years of stagnant negotiations”. And on 7 May, an “overwhelming majority” of pilots with Canadian start-up carrier Lynx Air also voted to join the world’s largest pilots’ union. Pilots at other airlines, notably at Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines, which are all represented by much larger union Air Line Pilots, International (ALPA), have in recent months won lucrative new contracts.Īir Canada’s pilots – previously represented by the Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) – recently voted to merge with ALPA. “This anticipated authorisation vote result does not change our commitment to the negotiation process, and we look forward to continuing discussions with SWAPA at the negotiating table.” “Our negotiating team continues to bargain in good faith and work toward reaching a new agreement to reward our pilots,” says Adam Carlisle, vice-president of labour relations at Southwest Airlines. The airline says it still expects mediation to end in a new contract for its flight deck crews, and for its summer schedule to be unimpeded by the negotiations. Southwest responded to the strike authorisation vote by noting that its pilots are “not on strike” and ”the vote result has no impact on our scheduled operations”. ”We want our passengers to understand that we do not take this path lightly.” ”We will follow the process set forth by the Railway Labor Act and continue toward a strike,” SWAPA says. SWAPA negotiating committee chair Jody Reven will now petition the National Mediation Board to release the union to self-help “imminently”, the union says.
